‘Out of the Wilderness’ — Cold War Kids
I was at my home in rural Morganton last week and after pulling up to my house in the dark, I was surprised at the stars overhead. Not that there were that many of them, or that they were exceptionally bright but just that they were there. I had gone for so long, possibly spent so much time in Winston-Salem around brighter lights, so that without paying much attention to the stars, I had forgotten about them altogether (yet another reason I need to more to the more sparsely populated West).
I used to know a little something about stars and took time to look at them very often. I even made sure to check when I could spy the next meteor shower. At some point I stopped all that. I wouldnt say I grew out of it (or at least I hope I didnt) because being struck by something as magnificent as the stars shouldnt be something you can ever ‘grow out of.’
Maybe it’s irony staring at me out of my computer screen that as soon as I noticed stars again I rushed inside to spill my thoughts on the internet… I wonder what other things I’ve begun to neglect and I only hope that I find joy in them again sooner rather than later.
